Greenbelt Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration 2023

Date: Wednesday, November 22, 2023

Time: 7:30 pm ET

Location:

Every November The Greenbelt Interfaith Leadership Association (GILA) holds a Thanksgiving Celebration the night before the holiday. In addition to representing the various faiths in Greenbelt and giving thanks for the blessings of the past year, GILA requests donations for the Greenbelt Emergency Assistance Fund and the Good Samaritan Fund. These funds have done so much good work in the past year:

  • The Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance to Greenbelt residents facing food insecurity (Food Pantry) and financial difficulty in paying for utilities (Electric, Phone, Internet, Water and Gas).
  • The Emergency Assistance Fund has been established to accept and disburse donations received to assist Greenbelt residents to pay rent to avoid possible eviction and displacement by natural disasters.
  • [needs update]
The Emergency Assistance Fund has prevented the eviction of 92 families. The Good Samaritan Fund helped 46 families with their utilities and paid for grocery cards for food pantry families. These programs receive funding from generous individuals, as well as Greenbelt faith communities and other civic associations.

We have come to Thanksgiving and GILA is again asking the Greenbelt Community to donate to the funds. The Emergency Assistance Fund and the Good Samaritan Fund have helped people who have not qualified for the American Recovery Act Program (ARPA). In addition, we include Greenbelt residents who have suffered a natural disaster. These funds are unique in Prince George’s County;  Greenbelt is a special community that reaches out and helps its neighbors.

You can give by:
